March 5th and 6th, 2010
I will be giving a workshop in Shreveport, Louisiana at the 2010 Written in the Stars Writer’s Conference. Lots of great speakers, editors and agents. If you live nearby don’t miss it! I’ll be giving my workshop on:
The Secret Life of Pantsers—Magic Tricks and Delightful Games
Are you a frustrated Pantser (one who writes by the seat of his or her pants) living in a plotter’s world? Where do you fall on the Pantser versus Plotter scale? Take the quiz and find out.
Pantsers come out of the closet! Leave your struggles behind. Learn why you write the way you write. Plotters AND Pantsers alike will benefit from discussing tricks, tools and delightful games that make a writer’s life easier. The creative mind is fabulously brilliant but also temperamental. Learn how to nurture and protect your unique type of creativity.
In lieu of structured plotting, learn how you can set yourself free by utilizing story analysis tools. Kathleen distills storytelling methods such as Scene and Sequel into easy to understand forms. Discuss and compare the best known story analysis tools: Vogler, Hauge, McKee and Truby. Plotters and Pantsers use analysis tools in vastly different ways. Learn how and when to use them to best suit your creative needs.
Pantsers take heart! You can have your cake and eat it, too. You can excel at craft and yet still hold onto the wild adventure of “storytelling.” Learn how to properly entertain your muse, how to lavish the creative mind with stimuli specific to your creative needs. Never lose your muse again.

April 10, 2010 – I’m scheduled to be in Des Moines, Iowa, giving an all day workshop at Two Rivers Romance Authors’ Retreat. If you’re a writer living in Des Moines come join the fun. I’ll be giving my interactive workshop on: The Secret Life of Pantsers—Magic Tricks and Delightful Games We’ll have enough time to go into depth on my magic tricks and tools.

Explore the three main types of humor and figure out which of these aspects of humor come most naturally to you. You do not have to be funny to write humor! Understanding the mechanics of comedy allows a writer to incorporate genuine humor into her story – satisfying humor that readers will remember long after they’ve finished reading your book. This is a hands-on workshop. Attendees will develop their own comedic character.
